Congressman Carter

Texas State Veterans Cemetery to receive nearly $5 million grant

WASHINGTON D.C. – Through his leadership as Vice-Chairman of Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) helped secure funds for the Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. The cemetery will receive a $4,948,832 grant from the Veteran’s Affairs (VA) for construction of crypts, landscaping and improvements to the cemetery. The VA says 128,237 veterans and families will be serviced by this grant.

“My district is made up of thousands of brave men and women who have selflessly served this great country. This is why I have fought and will continue to fight tooth and nail to make sure our soldiers and veterans receive funds needed for this beautiful cemetery,” said Chairman Carter. “Through this grant, our veterans will continue receiving our love, respect and support through the much-needed projects this grant will help fund.”

Secretary of the VA, Eric Shinseki, says the grant will fund the construction of 4,000 pre-placed crypts, landscaping, the construction of a grid support system, columbarium cap improvements and supporting infrastructure. Approximately 11 acres will be developed through those projects.

“I commend the VA and Secretary Shinseki for recognizing the Fort Hood region, our veterans and the Texas State Veterans Cemetery so we can keep serving this great place and those who protect and sacrifice for our nation.”
